Merriel Wayne Corser, 86, passed away on October 5, 2025. Wayne was born in Cherryvale, KS. In 1941, His family moved to their family farm in Vilas, NC. Wayne loved being there and would tell stories about the home place.
Wayne enlisted in the Army Air Guard in 1958 and retired as a MSgt in 1994 from the DC Air Nation Guard, 113th TFW stationed at Andrews Air Force Base. Wayne was also a local country music musician. Some may remember his band, Wayne Merriel and Country USA. He was a member of the Camp Springs BPOE #2332 where he served as Exalted Ruler. He once saved a man's life by doing CPR until medical attention arrived.
Wayne was very talented. He could sing, play the guitar, and the piano. He loved woodworking and fishing, especially fly fishing, but his greatest role was being a husband, father and grandfather. He had a quiet strength. He could also be silly and funny. He loved his family with his whole heart.
Wayne is survived by his daughter, Cheryal Stokes and her husband, Zane; his son, Bo Corser and his wife, Christine; his grandchildren, Joey and Robbie stokes, Nick and Jenny Corser, niece Karen Byers and her husband, Joe and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Joan Lee (Dant) Corser; his parents, Merriel Ray and Zolla (Wilson) Corser and brothers Norman and Jimmy Corser.
