Sherry Ann (Pumphrey) Hurd

Sherry Ann Hurd, 64, of Chesapeake Beach, MD passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on May 24, 2024 following a battle with cancer. She was born in Washington, D.C. on July 14, 1959. Sherry graduated high school in June of 1977 and made her career path for decades in the mortgage industry, with the majority of her time being spent as a loan closer.

Sherry was able to stay in her home with her family following her diagnosis, surgery, and treatments. Over the last several months, on the good days, she enjoyed meeting friends and family for meals along with a few weekend trips to Ocean City for her favorite Thrasher's fries! Holidays and party planning were huge for Sherry. She could plan a gathering to celebrate just about anything! For Christmas, the house was decorated from top to bottom and the flow of family and friends through the door was non-stop for the events she hosted with her husband, Billy. Some of her favorite pastimes were spending time with her friends at Traders, attending craft fairs, many family vacations, going to arcades and school events with her granddaughters, shopping (She loved a good deal!) and family crab feasts.

Sherry leaves behind her daughter, Candice Wheelock; son-in-law, Nathan Wheelock; granddaughters, Mackenzie and Jaidyn Wheelock; brother and sister-in-law, Francis "Gene" and Lisa Pumphrey; nephews and niece, Kevin, Micheal, Kaitlyn, and Travis Pumphrey; many loving family members and some of the best friends she could have ever asked for. Sherry was preceded in death by her husband, Harold "Billy" DeShong, and her parents Ralph, Jr. and Margaret Pumphrey.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held at Raymond-Wood Funeral Home, 10684 Southern Maryland Blvd. Dunkirk, MD  on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
