Robert Walter Canning

Robert Walter Canning, 87, of North Beach, MD, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025. Robert "Robbie" was born on September 13, 1938, in Brooklyn, NY. On September 19, 1962, he married the love of his life, JoAnn Daneri. Together, they raised their two children, Scott and Lisa, in Dunkirk, Maryland.

Robbie served in the United States Army and had a successful career in management positions, working for the Washington Star and the Washington Post. Robbie will be remembered as an avid reader and history buff. He loved watching sports, always rooting for the Washington Commanders, Nationals and Capitals. He enjoyed spending time fishing and crabbing at his weekend home in Scotland, Maryland. He especially adored spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Robbie was predeceased in death by his wife, JoAnn. He is survived by his children, Scott Canning (Teresa) and Lisa Canning, his grandchildren Justin Canning (Chelsea) and Christopher Olson, and his great-grandchildren, Austin and Harper.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Charlotte Hall Veterans Home or Wounded Warrior Project.
