Mertina Virginia Smith, 74, of Lusby, Maryland, passed away in Prince Frederick, MD on January 19, 2020. Mertina was born on February 1, 1945 in Port Republic, Maryland to the late Tom and Mertina Booth Harrod. She married Kingsley Smith, Sr. Mertina spent her life caring for children. She was a dedicated foster mother for over 24 years in both Baltimore and in Calvert County. She loved kids and she loved her family. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling, fishing, watching her Baltimore Ravens play, and cooking. Her family and friends will certainly miss her fried chicken, potato salad, sweet potato pies and rice pudding! Mertina is survived by her sons, Wayne Smith, Kingsley Smith, Jr. and Rodney (Chanelle) Smith, all of Lusby; daughters, Karen (Rodney) Chase of Lexington Park, MD, Ernestia (Richard) Kesler of Baltimore and Barbara (Joseph) Douglas, also of Lexington Park; sister, Bertha Wallace of Port Republic, MD, adopted children, Felicity, Robert, Trevonte and Tyshey Smith, 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is was predeceased by her husband, Kingsley Smith, Sr.
