Loretta Darlene (McCracken) Frye, 82, passed away peacefully on May 18th, 2025. She was born in Washington, D.C. on December 21st, 1942. She spent her childhood traveling with her family around the country and playing on the beach at Point Lookout in the family cottages.
After graduating from Bladensburg High School in 1960, Loretta took her first job at National Geographic where she met Bob, her husband of 59 years. Later, she worked as an inventory tabulator at Bondurant Inventory Service, a caretaker for her grandson, and a bookkeeper for Plus One Masonry. Music was an important part of Loretta’s life. She was a devoted member of the church choirs at Carrollan Woods Baptist Church and Dunkirk Baptist Church. She loved singing to the Carpenters, Sugarland, and Josh Groban.
Among her many virtues, Loretta’s sense of humor and adoration of her family were the most prominent. She enjoyed traveling to her grandson’s sporting and music events, her husband’s car shows or Hawaii vacation, and wherever her yearly cousins’ trip would take her with her sister, Barbara, and cousins, Mary Lou Young and Roberta McCracken.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert J. McCracken, her mother Evelyn McCracken Conway, and her granddaughter, Callie. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert W. Frye, her daughter, Denise (Frye) Childers, her son-in-law, John, her grandson, Chase, her sister, Barbara (McCracken) Cole her brother-in-law, Paul Cole, her niece, Debi Mc Mullen and family, and her nephew, David Cole and family.
