Lonnie Bowlin Obituary

Lonnie Howard Bowlin, 75,  of Owings, MD passed away suddenly on January 25, 2023. Lonnie was born in Williamsburg, KY on September 12, 1947 to the late Jim and Edna Jones Bowlin.  Lonnie was a member of Christian Fellowship of Calvert Church in Owings MD. He was an adamant believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.  His greatest joy was being devoted to his family, friends and work.

Lonnie attended Prince George's Community College, earning an  AA, Arts and Sciences, High Honors, US Navy Honor Man from 1970 to 1974, University of Maryland, Math and Computer Science and University of Maryland Global Campus;  CMSC Electronic Publishing. Lonnie was an expert in Air Traffic Control and Air Traffic Management and Founder and CEO of Aerospace Engineering and Research Associates, Inc. He began his career in air traffic control with the design of development and deployment of the US Oceanic Display and Planning System (ODAPS). ODAPS was used for all US air traffic over the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. He went on to 41 years of designing, developing, testing and deploying 20 of the most innovative Air Traffic Control and Air Traffic Management systems in operational use. As President of Aerospace Engineering and Research Associates (AERA), he served as a technical adviser to the ICAO Panel on Automatic Dependent Surveillance, and the North Atlantic and Pacific Planning groups. He was a Forbes Media Contributor. He wrote several articles including Methodology For the Fastest Airlines List, Fox News - Hawaiian Airlines is "the fastest airlines" in the US .(according to Forbes Report), -USAToday - Hawaiian Southwest, Allegiant top Forbes List of fastest airlines in the US, Air Traffic Control Quarterly article "Assessing NextGen Operational Improvements: A case of Airspace Complexity and Aircraft Arrival Management System" -Popular Science September 1995 issue, Science & Technology, "Shaving Travel Time", FAA/Eurocontrol Cooperative R & D Action "Capability Assessment of Various Fast-Time Simulation Models and Tools with Analysis Concerns. He received many awards for his contributing work also. 

Lonnie is survived by his wife Kathy, sons Paul and Tom of Owings MD and a daughter Kasey (Justin) Rogers of Glen Burnie MD. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by one sister, Phyllis Torres.
