Christopher Brian Keely, 34, passed away on May 21, 2025, at his residence. He was born on March 25, 1991 and was the son of Richard Keely and Patricia Phillips Keely. Chris Keely is survived by his wife, Melissa Volk Keely, his father, Richard and his partner Diana, and his sister, Katherine Keely and her partner Bart Dunn. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Patricia in 2011. He was loved by his large extended family and by many friends.
From a young age, Chris had a strong interest in building trades, learning a lot from his father, Richard. In high school, he studied carpentry at the Calvert Career and Technology Academy. There, with a team of his classmates, they traveled to Oklahoma City to compete in the building trades division of the Skills USA National Competition. Chris graduated from Calvert High School in 2009, afterwards furthering his education at Lincoln Technical Institute. There he received a certificate in HVAC.
He then began a career in building maintenance, eventually earning his DC third class engineer’s license. Chris loved the outdoors and was an active member of the Boy Scouts. With his leadership in the scouts, he became a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow and eventually reached the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. Outside of the scouts he continued his public service by working at the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute, and volunteering with the local fire department. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, fishing, playing paint ball, riding his motorcycle, and going to music festivals.
Chris had a great sense of humor and a big heart. He would never hesitate to lend a hand to help his friends and family. May his memory always be a blessing.
