Charlotte Sarah Smutko, 80, of Lothian, MD passed peacefully at home after a long fight with cancer. Charlotte was born on September 30, 1941 in Philadelphia, PA to the late David and Ida Sack Rothstein. She graduated from Temple University and moved to Anne Arundel County, where she and her husband lived for the past 40 years.. Charlotte earned her MS in Library Science from Catholic University. She was employed as a Children's Librarian and Storyteller and then as the Assistant Coordinator of Children's Services with the DC Public Library, from which she retired in 1965.
Charlotte was an avid reader, writer and poet and she also enjoyed traveling with friends. She was active in community preservation and land use policy.
Charlotte is survived by her husband of 50 years, John, with whom she helped design, build and decorate their beautiful home in the woods.
In addition to her parents, Charlotte was predeceased by her brother, Louis Rothstein.
