Charles Bernard Brady, Jr., of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, passed away on March 14, 2026, due to complications from Parkinson’s Disease. Charles was born on August 9, 1935, in Washington, D.C., and grew up in Forestville. A 1954 graduate of Bladensburg High School, he continued to the University of Maryland, earning a bachelor’s degree in secondary education majoring in industrial arts. He earned a master’s degree in education from George Washington University. He served in the Air Force reserves as he began his teaching career.
While they were both teaching at Severna Park High School he met his wife, Sylvia. After their marriage in 1964, the couple moved to Prince George’s County, eventually landing in Upper Marlboro in a home built by Charles. He spent his career teaching industrial arts and vocational education at Gwynn Park and Largo high schools.
He also became a dedicated father with the arrival of his sons, Chris in 1968, and Mark in 1970. Charles had a gift in building and fixing things. Whenever anyone in the family had car issues, Dad would come at any hour and fix the car or figure out how to get it out of a ditch. He developed a personal network with small and independent auto shops to find that exact part needed. Charles loved the outdoors and just being in nature. Gardening, hunting, fishing, crabbing, and foraging were some of his favorite activities. The family always had plenty of in season vegetables, fruits, and seafood.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Sr. and Helen, and his wife, Sylvia. He is survived by sons, Chris and Mark (Alida), one granddaughter, and extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift to St. Thomas’ Episcopal Parish or to the charity of your choice.
