Alice Elinor Stokes

Alice Elinor Stokes, 94, passed away on September 16, 2023, at her home in Camp Springs, MD. She was a cherished wife, mom, grandmom, great-grandmom, sister, aunt, and friend. Alice was born in 1929 in Capital Heights, MD to the late William and Alice Noel. She graduated from Maryland Park High School and took art classes afterwards. She worked for GC Murphy, the Internal Revenue Service and the Tax Court in Washington, DC for six years then became a homemaker.

Alice married her beloved husband, William T. Stokes, on December 1, 1950 (72 years!). They lived in District Heights, MD, and moved to Camp Springs, MD in 1976. They had three daughters, Susan Wilhelm (Dave) of Columbus, IN, Ruth Stokes (Oscar White), Camp Springs, MD, and Joanne Aikman (Jim), of Dunkirk, MD. Alice was a fabulous cook, artist, seamstress, making clothes and curtains, and she enjoyed gardening, crocheting and other crafts. She planned and enjoyed family vacations alternating between weekly stays at the beach and mountains, including camping up and down the east coast. Later in life she visited family in Indiana, Florida, and Maine.

In addition to her husband and daughters, she is survived by her sister Jane Williams; sister-in-law Mary Noel; five grandchildren, Dan, Emily, Elizabeth, Matt, and Becky; five great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; sister Wilhelmina Wilson; brother William Noel, Jr.; nephew John Noel, and two great-grandchildren.
