Merrilyn Bacon, 86, passed away, at home with her family at her side, in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland early on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. Merrilyn was a longtime resident of Pittsburgh, PA before retiring with her husband, John, to Chesapeake Beach in 2001. She loved the neighborly feeling of the town and the great view of the Bay from her porch.
In Pittsburgh, Merrilyn opened and ran Bear Tracks, a specialty teddy bear and doll shop. She enjoyed traveling on her many buying trips, and then later recreational travel with John and daughter Wendy. She greatly enjoyed seeing the pyramids in Giza, holding koala bears in Australia, visiting Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, and traveling the “cheese trail” in New England.
Merrilyn met John at Cornell University when she transferred there from Carnegie Mellon in her junior year. They met in the dining hall where she worked as a dietician when she gave him a super big helping of dessert. They married right after graduation and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last summer. She loved her amazing collection of antique bears, her boys – shelties Tookie and Tucker, playing bridge, cooking and having beautiful flowers in the yard. She is survived by her husband, John and her daughter, Wendy.
