Earl Capuano Obituary

Judge Earl F. Capuano of Easton, MD died peacefully on February 16, 2024 after a long illness. He was a native of Westport, CT and retired to Easton, Maryland in 2002. He is survived by Evelyn, his wife of 65 years; their son, Earl Jr. (Amy); granddaughters, Lindsay and Carley and step-grandsons, Cole and Adam Meckensturm. Judge Capuano graduated from Staples High School, Westport, CT, and The University of CT. He obtained a Juris Doctor degree from Columbia University and maintained a general law practice in Westport, CT. In 1986, he was elected Probate Judge for the Westport-Weston District and served in that capacity until he retired in 1999.

Judge Capuano maintained many positions of leadership throughout his career including the following: Chief Judge and President Judge of the CT Probate Assembly; President of the University of CT student body 1954-1955; Chair of the Financial Advisory Committee, CT Probate Assembly; Chair of the Planning Sub-committee on Succession Tax Alternate Financing; President of the Community Council of Westport-Weston; President of the Westport Rotary Club; Chair of the Westport Unit of the Salvation Army; Chair of the Weston Board of Tax Review; Chair of the Fairfield County Republicans; Chair of the Finance Committee University of CT; Chair of the Selectman's Committee on Excess School Utilization; Member of the Board of Directors at Lourdes Health Care Center; President of St. Vincent DePaul Society; and Chair of the Saints Peter and Paul Church Dedication Committee.

Honoraria include The Probate Assembly Award of Excellence 1997; Westport Commission on the Elderly Service Award 1998; Citizen of the Year Award Sportsman of Westport 1997. Judge Capuano served as Lector at The Church of Assumption, Westport and at Saints Peter and Paul Church in Easton, Maryland. 

He was a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, Regina Coeli Council. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saints Peter and Paul Church on Saturday, February 24, at noon. Honorary pall bearers represent members of the Regina Coeli Council Knights of Columbus with Color Guard participants from the Father Mosley Assembly of the Knights of Columbus. Rev. Michael Angeloni will officiate.
