Charles Stevenson, Jr. Obituary

Charles Dave Stevenson, Jr, was born to Charles D. Stevenson, Sr. and Violet James Stevenson on January 23, 1960, in Washington, D.C. Charles, affectionately known as “Chuck,” was the second of five children. He departed this life suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Shady Grove Hospital. Chuck was educated in the Prince George’s County, Maryland Public School System and graduated from Suitland Senior High School in 1979. He attended Bowie State University, Bowie, Maryland.

On December 12, 1981, Chuck was united in Holy matrimony to his friend for life Yvette Renee’ Johnson. This union produced two sons, of whom they were very proud, Charles Dave, III and Jonathan Leon.

Chuck began his career as a Pest Control Exterminator with Orkin Pest Control in 1981. After departing from Orkin in 1983, Chuck began his career with Home Exterminating Company, which later became Home Paramount Pest Control. Chuck was a licensed and certified pest control technician. He was a well-respected leader and valued team member for 38 years until his retirement in January 2022.

Chuck accepted Christ at the age of nine while attending Jordan Baptist Church in Capitol Heights, Maryland under the leadership of Pastor William J. Smith, Founder. He was called to the Diaconate in 1988 and was ordained in 1989. In 1992, Chuck joined St. Judah Spiritual Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., where he served under the leadership of Pastor Hershel Hagans. After the passing of Pastor Hagans, Pastor Cleophus Atkins founded Restoration Christian Fellowship Church in Washington, D.C. in 2003, where he continued to serve as a Deacon. He later served as Chairman of the Deacon Board. In 2012, Chuck united with the Poplar Grove Baptist Church and in 2013 and was asked and selected by Poplar Grove to serve as part of the Diaconate. He graciously accepted and faithfully served until his death. Chuck truly loved the Lord from a very young age. Throughout his life he often shared his spiritual journey with others and invited them to join him. He always had words of encouragement and strived to be an example to the next generation.

Chuck was a friendly outgoing person. His warm spirit, genuine concern for others and infectious smile made him a lovable and likeable person. He enjoyed spending time with family and rarely missed an opportunity to support family events. Chuck was a devoted fan of the Washington Commanders (formerly known as the Washington Redskins) and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Deacon Charles Stevenson, Sr. (October 1999) and brother, Carthan D. Farrar, Sr.  (September 2001.) Chuck leaves to cherish his memories; sons, Charles Dave, III and Jonathan Leon. Sr. (Saran); three grandsons, Malik and Mekhi Sanders and Jonathan Stevenson, Jr.; mother, Violet Stevenson; sister, Sherri Stevenson; brothers, Darryl Stevenson and Jeffrey Stevenson (Alisha); Lorice Farrar, sister-in-law; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and goddaughter, Carrissa Rose.
